At MISITU MILELE, we believe that change starts with a single step — or in our case, a single tree, single acre.
Our name means “Forests Forever”, and it reflects our vision to build a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Kenya by establishing one million acres of forest.
We are more than a tree-planting organisation. We are a community of environmental stewards, scientists, volunteers, and partners working together to restore degraded forests, create vibrant green spaces, and protect Kenya’s natural heritage for future generations.
Why We Exist
Kenya’s tree cover loss stands at 14% between 2002 and 2024 , threatening water sources, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of millions. While tree-planting campaigns are common, many focus on numbers planted rather than trees grown.
At MISITU MILELE, we are committed to growing permanent forests, not just planting seedlings rooted in restoration, ownership, outreach, training and sustainability.
How We Do It
Our work follows a clear, three-step approach:
- Planting – Choosing the right species for the right place.
- Growing – Caring for seedlings until they become strong and resilient.
- Establishing Permanent Forests – Creating balanced ecosystems and ensuring community-led protection.
Alongside this, we follow a detailed process — from baseline surveys and landowner agreements to community mobilisation, gapping, and long-term monitoring — to ensure success at every stage.
The Journey Ahead
Our goal is ambitious: to contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s 15 billion trees by 2032 target and make sure those trees survive for generations. We will do this by planting a million trees, hand in hand with the communities we serve.
How You Can Be Part of It
Whether you’re a volunteer ready to get your hands in the soil, a donor who believes in climate action, or a partner organisation looking to collaborate, there’s a place for you in our journey.
Together, we can make forests last forever.
